Session Description:

Compassion is a pressing problem in society today. Yet compassion is low-cost and immediately actionable. This session will examine how to grow in compassion for ourselves and our people – those we serve and those we serve with. We will specifically look at ways compassion impacts five aspects of healthcare, which can also translate into the world of recovery: the way patients/clients experience care, population health, cost reduction, care team well-being, and health equity. We will wrap up by specifically discussing what behaviors translate into compassionate care from the eyes of those we serve.

Objectives:

1. Discuss the connection between compassion and well-being.
2. Assess the impact of compassionate patient care on each facet of the quintuple aim.
3. List five behaviors associated with effective empathy.
